Vision Academy’s W.I.N. program, previously known as Husky Extended Learning Time, is designed to ensure mastery and deliver diverse, personalized opportunities to all students. This initiative stems from research indicating that achieving mastery extends beyond the confines of a regular school day for certain students.
W.I.N. is a mandatory component for all students, providing them with targeted academic support through small-group instruction to reinforce or revisit learned content. Our grouping decisions are informed by various data points, grounded in a deep understanding of each student’s needs and aspirations.
To inform these groupings, we consider data from the previous year’s state reading and math assessments and the commencement-of-year assessments. A pivotal assessment tool at Vision Academy C.S. is i-Ready, aimWEBplus, and teacher-developed tools. I-Ready is an all-encompassing diagnostic evaluation encompassing math and reading administered at the beginning, middle, and end of the year; this assessment guides software-generated groupings while granting teachers access to pertinent lessons and resources to bolster student support. I-Ready is a cornerstone for organizing intervention and enrichment groups during the W.I.N. block.
Additional data sources, such as formative assessments like checkpoint quizzes, mid-unit quizzes, exit tickets, and end-of-unit assessments, contribute to our strategic grouping approach. W.I.N. sessions occur four days a week, commencing from the first week of school. These sessions are allocated for Literacy Activities, Math Activities, Project-Based Learning (P.B.L.), and Clubs tailored to grade level and quarter specifics. Moreover, teachers are empowered to include supplementary activities aligned with the purpose of W.I.N., whether to foster classroom community or experiment with other pursuits that resonate with the program’s objectives.
